Virtual Language of Materials: Exploring the Studio
Monday, February 3rd, 2025
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm MDT
Price: $25
In the Reggio Emilia philosophy, “The studio is not an isolated place where artistic things happen. It is a laboratory for thinking.” -Lella Gandini. Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, believed that young children have a hundred ways of speaking, listening, and being. Those languages should be encouraged and explored. When you invite a child to draw, the act of drawing creates a pathway for a child to express themselves more fully and more often than not a story or a dialogue accompanies their work.
Come join us on a virtual exploration of the studio. We will take a virtual tour of the Mountain Academy studio as we discuss why process art is critical to a child’s development, creativity and imagination. We will brainstorm together how others can create or enhance their own “laboratory of thinking” spaces as we connect to our own artistic selves through exploring a variety of mediums and materials that will be sent out prior to the workshop*. Just as we challenge children we hope to challenge you to explore concepts and ideas through different lenses and perspectives with the aid of new materials, provocations and play.
2 Wyoming STARS hours or a certification of completion are available to all attendees.
*To receive a package of materials please make sure you sign up no later than January 20th, so we can make sure your package arrives in time. If you sign up after January 20th, you will receive a list of suggested materials to promote provocation and play.
