Mountain Academy Jackson Campus Announces Suspension of its Upper School Programming
Young Toddler – 8th Grade Education and Programming will Continue at Coyote Canyon Campus
Jackson, Wyoming – Teton Science Schools Board of Directors and the Mountain Academy Advisory Board (MAAB) announced this week they are suspending programming for the Upper School at Mountain Academy Jackson Campus.
The Board of Directors recognized that the Upper School (9th – 12th grade) enrollment was no longer enough to keep up with the educational experience that school leaders wanted to deliver.
“This was a difficult decision for all of us, but we recognized the need to focus our resources and faculty in the early childhood through eighth-grade programs,” says MAAB Co-Chair Ashley Finan. “By consolidating our focus on the Lower and Middle Schools at the Jackson Campus, we are confident we can continue to deliver exceptional, place-based educational curricula.”
The TSS Board of Directors and MAAB have worked diligently on other options for currently enrolled Upper School students.
Mountain Academy has had thoughtful conversations with the Jackson Hole Community School, working together to offer a pathway to the JH Community School for students from MA who enrolled for the 24/25 school year. Not all students explored this option, but those who did have or are going through the JH Community School’s application process.
“We will continue to work with community partners across the region to bring the unique programming and outdoor education experiences that you find at Mountain Academy,” says TSS Board Chair Leah Corrigan. “Our mission of delivering academic rigor and deepening our students’ engagement with nature and the community will continue through hands-on learning and the brightest, engaged faculty. We look forward to this period of re-building and will be engaging both parents and the community along the way.”
MAAB is working on a “Mountain Academy Jackson Campus Revitalization Plan” to set strategic goals for the next 3-5 years focused on growing their strengths and academically excelling through the place-based education model.
Mountain Academy Jackson Campus will continue to offer classes for young toddlers through eighth grade. Those interested in enrolling can visit tetonscience.org/mountain-academy.
