There’s something magical about the first snowfall at the Murie Ranch, the soft crunch underfoot, the smell of pine in the air, and the sense that the holidays are just around the corner. This year, Teton Science Schools invites you to celebrate the season with one of our most beloved traditions: the Annual Cookie Swap & Open House at the Murie Ranch, taking place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 12:00–3:00 PM (MST) in Moose, Wyoming.
A Sweet Tradition with a Murie Twist
If you’ve never been to a cookie swap, here’s how it works: bake a couple dozen of your favorite cookies, bring them along with a container, and get ready to trade treats with other guests. You’ll head home with a delightful mix of everyone’s best recipes, and maybe some new friends, too.
At the heart of this event is a tradition inspired by Mardy Murie, often referred to as the “Grandmother of the Conservation Movement.” Each year, Mardy hosted a holiday cookie swap at the Murie Ranch, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and, of course, her famous Cry Baby Cookies. We’re keeping that spirit alive, so while we’ll have plenty of Mardy’s cookies on hand, we invite you to bring a batch of your own to share.
Cozy Up at the Ranch
Whether you can stay for 15 minutes or linger for all three hours, the Murie Ranch will be alive with holiday cheer. Sip steaming hot cider on Mardy and Olaus’ historic porch, gather around a crackling bonfire, and enjoy the quiet magic of winter in Grand Teton National Park.
Getting There
To make your visit easy, transportation will be provided from the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center (1 Teton Park Rd, Moose, WY 83012). A Wildlife Expeditions vehicle will run shuttles every half hour, beginning at 12:00 PM, ensuring you can come and go at your leisure.
