Overview:

The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is one of the largest intact temperate-zone ecosystems currently in existence. The wide range of ecosystem components and functions that exist in the GYE are the basis for its immense biological diversity, and resulting ecosystem values. In order to protect these basic values, earth’s fundamental natural resources must also be protected, including air quality, which can cause adverse impacts on human health and the environment when degraded, most often as a result of anthropogenic activity. This bibliography was created during winter 2010-2011 as an intern project, 200 hours over approximately 3 months, in order to compile scientific reports on air quality in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE). These citations are meant to demonstrate both the current and historical status of air quality in the GYE and make this wide array of information available to the public and decision makers in one location. With access to high-quality information, all stakeholders will have an increased capability to protect air quality in the GYE for now and future generations.

Project Goals:

  • Compile scientific documents on existing air quality research and data to demonstrate the current and historical status of air quality in the GYE
  • Make information on air quality in the GYE available to the public, to enable all stakeholders to make well informed decisions on and become involved in protecting air quality in the GYE
  • Create an online virtual library archiving the documents in order to enhance public accessibility
