The Givens-Black Teacher Learning Center of Teton Science Schools provides professional development opportunities that are experiential, integrated and place-based. Combining components of environmental education with innovative leadership strategies and research-based aspects of educational reform creates powerful learning experiences suitable for administrators and teachers from public and independent schools and environmental education centers. Programming includes customized day-long workshops, week-long events and in-residence conferences. Teacher Learning Center experiences are local, regional, national and international in scope and recertification and/or graduate credit is offered. 2008/2009 Wilderness Medical Training Courses
Wilderness Medical Training programs are taught by staff from the Wilderness Medicine Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School (WMI of NOLS).
Wilderness First Responder
Aug. 11 - Aug. 20, 2008 at Kelly Campus
Dec. 8 – Dec. 17, 2008 at Jackson Campus
This 80-hour course is designed to provide outdoor leaders, guides, rangers and travelers with the knowledge to deal with emergencies in remote settings. You will spend half your time in the classroom and the other half completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision-making abilities. WMI of NOLS Adult Adult CPR is included in this course. University credit available (not included in course fee).
Fee: $725 - Non-residence, includes lunches.
Fee: $1,260 - In-residence, includes food and lodging.
Wilderness First Responder Recertification
Aug. 22 - Aug. 24, 2008 at Kelly Campus
Feb. 27 – Mar. 1, 2009 at Jackson Campus
This three day scenario-based course is designed as review and practice of evacuation and decision-making guidelines and may be used to recertify current Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness EMT certifications (wilderness portion only) from the following organizations: Wilderness Medicine Institute (WMI), National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO), Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA), Organizacion para la Educacion y Proteccion Ambiental (OpEPA) and Wilderness Professional Trainings (WPT). WMI of NOLS Adult CPR is included in this course. University credit available (not included in course fee).

Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT)
Nov. 24 - Dec. 19, 2008 at Kelly Campus
This four-week program combines wilderness medicine with urban medical care practices, including time at a hospital and in an ambulance. Classroom education, practical skills, scenarios and full-scale mock rescues prepare you for wilderness or urban medical emergencies. Successful completion of the course and both written and practical examinations certify the student as a Basic EMT and Wilderness EMT under the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Note: Healthcare Provider level CPR is a prerequisite for this course.
Fee: $3,150 - In-residence, includes meals and lodging.
